I remember a bunch of guys doing graffiti on the walls in the back not too long after it opened. I never got pictures of it though.
I also remember The Slow Suicide doing a Halloween Nirvana cover set there.

I will always remember the LAVA house. I attended some great parties and shows there. I remember bringing some friends from out of town and them thinking that the LAVA house was the most incredible place they had ever seen. It was always an exciting, decadent time. The shows were always great as well. I remember the stadium seating was an excellent addition. Lightening Bolt, Arab on Radar, Trans Am, Starkiller, tripping on New Years Eve, all of the great artwork and ideas.... So many good times. I hate that it is gone.

The LAVA House will forever go down, in my personal history, as the radest place ever. The memories I can recall that are all so dear to me include: watching Koyaanisqatsi while sitting in the living room, littered with photographs of police in riot gear; listening to so many awesome bands play live: lightening bolt, the locust, fawn fables, and etc; irina celebrating halloween while renegade rocksters known as "rolling thunder" dressed as an amazing handicapped basketball team perform "hey ya" in the distance, making stencils of girl power, creating found art, climbing the catwalks, observing art shows, kissing a boy that i REALLY liked in the garden, discovering couch stadium seating, bio-diesel converted engines, horses made of clay, street signs plastered to the stage, an old piano that was taken apart to sit gently along the stage, wearing a short skirt on valentine's day which prevented me from climbing back downstairs, skating inside with the icelanders, and watching transam on new years of course.

the courtyard in the summer with all its lucious greenery will sit silent this year... no more is the red room

i sit and redraw images of the works that were in process... i listen for the clock my father made which will never chime again

i think about how much more could have been accomplished beyond the drama of the daily grind

i am glad for the truth i gained and the ability to understand what beauty really is

this is how it really is...
